The commission of enquiry into the 1990 attempted coup will resume today at the Caribbean Court of Justice in Port-of-Spain.

Expected to testify today at the third session which will run until May 6, is former head of news of the now defunct TTT, Jones P Madeira as well as former minister Trevor Sudama, who returns to complete his testimony.

The commission — led by retired Barbados Chief Justice Sir David Simmons — is looking into the causes of the July 27, 1990, attempted coup, which was led by Jamaat-al-Muslimeen leader Yasin Abu Bakr.

Summoned to testify at the lengthy enquiry, are Finance Minister Winston Dookeran, then a minister and deputy leader of the National Alliance for Reconstruction (NAR) government, who served as a negotiator for the Government as well as Canon Knolly Clarke.

At the start of the enquiry, former prime minister and then NAR leader Arthur NR Robinson testified.

Commission members include Sir Richard Cheltenham, also Barbadian, security expert Dr Haffizool Ali-Mohammed and former independent senators Eastlyn McKenzie and Diana Mahabir-Wyatt.
