Internet shopping via Aeropost

By Richardson Dhalai Thursday, December 23 2010

For those unable to travel to the United States and Canada, the joys of Internet shopping was brought one step closer to home by two of the world’s premier international shipping and e-commerce companies.

UP Xpress/Aeropost Trinidad Limited opened its doors to the South Trinidad community when it unveiled its 63rd outlet at the Gopaul Lands Hardware Compound, Marabella Roundabout last Friday.

Speaking at the official opening of the new outlet, Aeropost’s Central American director Jeff Duchesneau said the cost of shipping would also be dramatically reduced by the new service.

“If you live outside the United States or to some lesser extent, Europe and the United Kingdom, Internet shopping was appealing, but very costly, as traditional courier delivery services take their pound or two of flesh to get any purchase from a US or European merchant to Trinidad,” he said.

“And that’s where we at Aeropost step in and dramatically change shopping for all of us who live in the Caribbean and Latin America,” Duchesneau said. “It turns out that what we at Aeropost did with catalogue store was to make it possible, and very affordable, for you to shop on the Internet just as though you lived in the US and yet receive your purchases right here in Trinidad, quickly and efficiently.”

“You shop at the online store of your choice, which sends your purchases to your individual safe and convenient Miami address. And by combining your packages with all others for Trinidad, we dramatically lower the cost of shipping your purchases and deliver them to your hands right here.”

UP Xpress, a premier mail and package receiving and delivery company together with Aeropost, offers a linking of local merchants to US wholesalers and suppliers.

Other features include a personal or corporate delivery address in Miami for Internet shopping, 800/as seen on TV offers, catalogue offerings or drop offs.

The company also offers unparalleled tracking and regular status alerts for packages via email and SMS; full coverage of shipments, inclusive of online viewing of account balances; no volumetric charges and competitive rates starting at half-pound and customers own, secure, pre-paid US- based E-shopping cart.

Aeropost is a Miami-based company with over 25 years experience in the mail and package forwarding business.

In 2010, Aeropost was on track to process more than $167 million in value of packages purchased online and, despite the difficulties presently the US economy, the company experienced a growth rate of 26 percent in 2009 and was up to 43 percent earlier in 2010.

The company also boasts of having more than half-a-million customers in over 40 Central, South American and Caribbean nations.

Aerpost also provides a “state-of-the-art technology platform so that each user in the Aeropost system has complete control over their packages and mail from the time they arrive at the Miami warehouse to delivery at their address in their home country.”

The company also “manages all customs and logistics processing, if the customer chooses in order to take the hassle out of the logistics control.”

And for users who don’t possess credit cards or ‘never shopped online before, Aeropost also provides shopping advisers and shipping assistants to make online shopping easier for these international users.’

Welcoming the company to the southern city was San Fernando Mayor, Marlene Coudray, who commended the company for it’s foresight in setting up an office at Marabella saying this was a recognition of the business opportunities available in South Trinidad.
