CIBC appoints new managing director

CIBC FirstCaribbean In-ternational Bank has announced the appo-intment of Duane Hinkson as its new managing director of its Trinidad and Tobago business effective January 1.
Hinkson brings over 13 years of corporate, investment and merchant banking experience at major financial institutions to the position, which saw him perform in senior management roles in areas such as risk management, relationship management, origination, syndication and deal closure. These roles have taken him across the length and breadth of the Caribbean having executed transactions from The Bahamas in the north to Suriname in the south.
He joined CIBC FirstCaribbean in 2010 as the director, Advisory Services & Sovereign Specialist. During this time, he also served as a member of the CIBC FirstCaribbean Senior Leadership Team and the CIBC FirstCaribbean Investment Banking Senior Management Team.
Since then, Hinkson has been an invaluable team member with an intimate knowledge of senior client relationships and strategic management, as well as a proven track record of accomplishments.
Hinkson holds a number of qualifications in the field of Banking and Finance and business, including the Certificate for Financial Advisers with a specialisation in Securities from the Institute of Banking and Finance of Trinidad and Tobago. He completed a Master of Business Administration degree at Georgia State University in Atlanta, USA with a double concentration in Marketing and International Business and also holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) degree in Management Studies from the University of the West Indies in St. Augustine. Outside of business, he also completed a Certificate in Project Management for Business Professionals at the School of Business and Computer Science in Champs Fleurs.
Of his new appointment, Mr Hinkson said, “it is a very exciting time for me to be entrusted with the reins at CIBC FirstCaribbean as we focus on delivering new and innovative products with exceptional customer service to our target segments. We have a great team here in TT and I look forward to successfully building out our franchise with them.”
In welcoming Hinkson to his new role, Chief Executive Officer of CIBC FirstCaribbean, Rik Parkhill, also acknowledged the contribution of the bank’s former managing director for the TT market, Ian Chinapoo, who retains his regional role as Managing Director for CIBC FirstCaribbean’s Corporate Lending and Investment Banking segment.
Parkhill noted, “we are grateful to Ian for his management of our Trinidad business while simultaneously managing our Corporate and Investment Banking business.” Of Mr Hnkson’s appointment the CEO added, “Duane has established an enviable track record of superior leadership and managerial accomplishment. We feel confident in his ability to lead our team in Trinidad and Tobago, and continue to build our business in this important market.”
