Two calypsonians perceived as being aligned to the ruling People’s Partnership administration, Winston Scarborough, aka, the Original De Fosto himself and Michael “Sugar Aloes” Osouna, were on the receiving end end of the infamous toilet paper treatment from a huge Skinner Park crowd at the Calypso Fiesta competition, Skinner Park, San Fernando yesterday.

The crowd waved their roles of toilet paper boisterously during performances of both calypsonians — a treatment usually reserved for those deemed to have lyrically unsound calypsoes but which was reserved yesterday for the two veterans who have both appeared on political platforms of the ruling coalition party.

And while De Fosto’s toilet paper treatment came from patrons at the front of the stage, Aloes’ treatment was widespread with patrons throughout the park, including those in the VIP section, waving umbrellas and flags decorated with the tissue.

Aloes was also pelted with rolls of paper as well as a roti and a piece of potato.

De Fosto, who apeared on stage at position 23,performed the composition “Aloo Sing” a reference to the appearance on stage of Aloes at the the second anniversary celebrations of the ruling administration last year.

Aloes, appearing in position 26, sang “Not de Land” before an audience which also hoisted placards which read “Sugar Aloes is wuk ah wukking for curry dollars” and “aloo too dis loyal.”

Aloes did not venture to the edge of the stage, as most calypsonians did during their performances, and took the toilet paper treatment in stride by calling on the crowd to “raise de toilet paper dem high, raise dem high” as he completed his performance with the crowd gleefully complying with his instruction.

Two senior police officers stood at the edge of the stage during Aloes’ performance.
