The sizzling sounds of Double Vibrations tassa band provided an upbeat mood for patrons who enjoyed the official launch of activities by the Couva Carnival Committee (CCC) at the Couva Car Park last Wednesday night.

Led by the versatile Haimchan Ramdeo, the Macaulay, Claxton Bay-based band thrilled the audience with their infectious rhythms and offered fans a lagniappe, ‘ramajaying’.

The Chutney/Calypso Touring Tent, led by Vijay Ramlal Rai and featuring the Navin Laloo-led Millennium Starz Orchestra, entertained the audience with a number of established singers, including Neeshan “Hitman” Prabhoo, Rex East, Boodram Holass, Mohip Poonwassie, Amelia Sookdeo and Rajo Laloo.

CCC Chairman Ramchand Rajbal Maraj officially launched the seven-day Couva Carnival festivities, appealing to the public to have a safe Carnival and assuring them that this year’s celebrations would surpass previous editions.
