Relatives want to fly Greenes to UKBy RHONDOR DOWLAT and Lara Pickford-Gordon Saturday, August 8 2009
RELATIVES of Peter and Murium Greene have made a request to medical officials at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, (EWMSC) Mt Hope to have the British couple transferred to a hospital in England for further treatment.
Peter’s sister Ann Greene was at the adult hospital of the medical complex yesterday with another male relative, believed to be her son.
When approached for comment outside of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and the High Dependency Unit (HDU), Ann, who wore a fluorescent green blouse and a pair of black pants, confirmed her name, but declined to comment.
“Yes, I am Ann but you are the press and I wish not to comment. I am not talking to the press.” Ann then walked away and returned to the ICU where, Peter, 65, remained in a medically induced coma. He had been operated on to release fluid from his brain.
Peter was taken for further medical examination and tests yesterday morning and was wheeled back into the ICU at about 12.45 pm. A CT scan was done and Newsday learnt that an ophthalmologist is to examine his eyes which were injured in the attack on the couple in Tobago last week.
Murium, 59, recuperated from jaw surgery which was done on Thursday. A titanium plate and screws were implanted to stablise her fractured jaw. Newsday also learnt that visitors to Murium were being restricted at the HDU and she could not speak.
Newsday was reliably informed that Peter’s son Mark Greene arrived in Trinidad on Thursday night and was taken straight to the hospital to visit his father and step-mother before checking in at a hotel in Port-of-Spain.
Officials of the medical complex have been in discussion with Health Minister Jerry Narace about having the couple air-lifted in an air ambulance to a hospital in England.
In an interview with the Redding Post, relatives of the couple said Peter had prostate cancer and Murium suffered from multiple sclerosis.
