Akeel Mathison ...

A TEENAGER was due to be charged last night with the murder of television cameraman Akeel Mathison, who was stabbed to death over a cellular phone last Friday in San Fernando.

Once charged, the 19-suspect will appear before a San Fernando magistrate.

Shortly before he died, Mathison, 23, of Jarvis Street, Vistabella, San Fernando named his killer to police investigators.

Mathison was employed as a cameraman with the religious television station Acts Channel 9.

The following day, the accused of Naparima/Mayaro Road, Cocoyea, walked into the police station and gave himself up. It was only yesterday that Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Carla Brown-Antoine ordered the youth be charged for the murder. PC Roger Reid of the San Fernando CID was expected to lay the charge.

Mathison had left an Internet cafe on Coffee Street, San Fernando, when he was attacked. He was stabbed once in the chest, as he was robbed of his Blackberry Pearl cellphone. The name of the suspect was the last word said by Mathison. He is expected to be buried today.
