AN ESTRANGED wife went to visit her two children on Sunday when she was reportedly tied up and placed in a room of a house in Northeastern Settlement, Sangre Grande, by a 35-year-old man whom she knew.

The next day, the man untied her and ordered her into a car. He told her he was taking her to Chaguaramas.

However, upon reaching the Valencia Police Post, the woman made a daring escape when she jumped out of the moving vehicle and ran to the police station for help.

The man, a mason, was subsequently arrested. He is expected to appear before a Sangre Grande magistrate today to answer charges on two counts of false imprisonment, and larceny of a motor vehicle.

According to a police report, at about 12.30 pm Joanne Daniel Romaine, a clerk employed at the Revenue Office in Tunapuna went to a house at Jacob Coat Street, North Eastern Settlement, Sangre Grande to visit her two children when a man, whom she knew attacked her as she entered the house.

Police said that the man overpowered Romaine tying her hands and feet before placing her in a room telling her that she had to stay.

At about 11 pm on Monday the man untied her and ordered her into her Toyota Corolla wagon and told her that he was taking her to Chaguaramas. Upon reaching the Valencia Police Post, Romaine, who was seated in the front passenger’s seat opened the door and jumped out of the vehicle. The man sped off.
