Guard shot, firearm stolen

By CECILY ASSON Wednesday, October 14 2009

A security guard was shot in the shoulder and two guns and 24 rounds of ammunition were stolen during a robbery at the Water and Sewerage Authority Navet reservoir facility on Saturday night.

Police said two armed men, who wore flash lights on their heads, also stole a Nissan Frontier SUV which belonged to the security firm and used it in their escape. The SUV was later found abandoned three miles into the Charuma Forest in Biche.

Police said security guards Allan Dookie, Mukesh Ramgoolam, Lee Shanni and Lutchman Jagoo, all of Pro Security Services, were on duty at the facility at about 10.50 pm on Saturday, when the men entered the premises and announced a hold up.

Dookie was shot in the shoulder and robbed of a shotgun and 12 rounds of ammunition and his cell phone while his colleague Ramgoolam was also relieved of his nine millimeter pistol and 12 rounds of ammunition and a cell phone.

Dookie was treated at hospital and discharged.

The thieves also took the cell phones from Shanni and Jagoo before jumping into the security vehicle and driving off.

PC Cumberbatch of the Brasso Police Station is investigating.

In a separate incident, police are investigating the robbery of two chicken depots over the weekend.

Some $30,000 cash and $100,000 worth of jewelry were stolen from an office at the depots.

Police said the owner of the depots, Edward Indar, secured his business place at Duncan Village, La Romaine, at about 7 pm on Sunday and when he returned on Monday, he found that the office had been broken into and the items missing.

Investigations are continuing into both incidents.
