POLICE believe a Peruvian national slipped and fell from the sidewalk and into the path of a passing container truck along Wrightson Road on Tuesday. The man was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital (PoSGH) where he was pronounced dead-on-arrival.

Investigating officers are currently making arrangements with officials from the Peru Embassy to contact the man’s relatives.

According to a police report, at about 2.30 pm, Louis Penny of Peru who was in the country on business, was standing along the pavement near the National Flour Mills, waiting to cross Wrightson Road from south to north.

Police said that according to an eyewitness, Penny was attempting to cross the road when two container trucks proceeding in a westerly direction were passing. Penny stopped and got back onto the pavement but apparently slipped and fell hitting the side of one of the passing trucks.

After the trucks passed, Penny was seen lying on the roadway near a gap. He was taken to the PoSGH where he died. Police said that Penny was staying at the Kapok Hotel, St Clair, Port-of- Spain. Investigations are continuing.
