Cops hunt for three bandits

Thursday, October 22 2009

CENTRAL Division police officers are on the lookout for three bandits who are behind a series of robberies both in Chaguanas and Couva. The latest incident perpetrated by these criminals, according to police, occurred on Tuesday in Longdenville and Couva.

In Couva, a businessman was chopped on the hand and then robbed of several thousand dollars worth of photographic equipment, cash and jewelry. According to a police report, at about 12.30 pm, three men of African descent entered a photo studio along the Old Southern Main Road in Couva and announced a hold-up. Police said the men ordered the 36-year-old owner of the store to hand over the cash, but he resisted and was chopped.

The owner and his 33-year-old wife handed over cash, jewelry, camera equipment, memory cards, phone cards and other items. The men then escaped.

Police said that earlier on that day, three men, fitting the same description as the bandits who attacked the photo studio in Couva, entered into a white Toyota Corolla Super Saloon car at the flyover in Chaguanas. Police said that on nearing the ice factory in Longdenville Main Road, the men instructed the driver to drop them out. Police said when the car stopped, the men announced a hold up and proceeded to rob the driver and another passenger of cash, jewelry, cell phones and other personal belongings. The bandits then ran off. Anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of these three bandits is being asked to contact the police at 665 9958 or 800 TIPS (8477) or 555. Investigations are continuing.
