Squeezing a woman’s breast draws six months jail

By STACY MOORE Thursday, October 22 2009

A 59-year-old man, who molested a young woman by squeezing her breast six years ago while working in her home will spend the next six months in jail.

Juilen DeGannes of Crescent Road, Union Hall, San Fernando will have the next six months to think about the crime he committed after being sentenced by Magistrate Roger Ramgoolam in the San Fernando Sixth Magistrate’s Court.

The incident occurred Thursday, July 17, 2003 at Rambert Village, San Fernando when the woman, 21 years at the time, was at her home alone.

DeGannes had access to the areas of the woman’s house since he was hired by the young woman and her family to do masonry work around the house.

The young woman testified during the trial that she was alone at home at about 12.30pm that day when DeGannes accosted her.

It is alleged that in accosting the woman, he held on to her left breast and began squeezing it. The woman also testified that when DeGannes grabbed her breast he also tried to kiss her on her lips. There was a struggle and the woman managed to push DeGannes away and escape. She reported the incident to the San Fernando Police Station and PC Gregory Cameron conducted investigations. DeGannes was arrested the same day. Although DeGannes pleaded not guilty to the charge, he was found guilty on the evidence.
