Brother kills brother

By ALEXANDER BRUZUAL Tuesday, October 27 2009

ANGRY over his older brother refusing to lower the volume of music he was listening to, a 19- year-old Maraval youth armed himself with a knife and stabbed his sibling to death at their home during the early morning hours yesterday.

The killing of Antonio Lucio, 27, was one of two murders to be committed within a four-hour span between Sunday night and yesterday morning.

In the first incident, which occurred at about 11.15 pm on Sunday, 25-year-old Ricardo McCarthy was found dead in his home at #21 George Street, Port-of-Spain shortly after residents heard several gunshots.

When the shooting ended, three men dressed all in black were seen fleeing from McCarthy’s home. A report was made to police and officers subsequently came across McCarthy’s body with bullet wounds to his head and chest. McCarthy’s body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre yesterday morning where it was identified by relatives, who chose not to speak to the media.

In the second incident, at about 2.30 am yesterday, Lucio, an auto-mechanic, was at his Saddle Road, Maraval home listening to music from his laptop computer. His 19-year-old brother told Lucio the music was too loud and to turn down the volume. The elder brother refused to do so and an argument broke out. The younger sibling armed himself with a knife and stabbed his brother in the neck and chest during a fight.

Lucio was taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital by other relatives awakened by the fight.

He was pronounced dead on arrival. The teenager has since been detained by police.
