CHARGED: Leary Ferrier, one of three men charged with accepting stolen guns, is escorted to the Couva Magistrates' Court yesterday. ...

THREE COUVA men appeared in the district’s magistrates court yesterday on charges of receiving one of 13 handguns stolen from Mi5 Security Company of Woodbrook last Sunday.

The trio, identified as Leary Ferrier, 27; Hayden Riley, 26; and Caesar Collins, 29, were taken before a Clerk of The Peace in the court shortly after midday. It is alleged the handguns were stolen from the security firm located on Alfredo Street by two men who walked up to the secured burglar-proofed gates and pretended that they were there to deliver a package. They accosted a female security guard and made off with 13 handguns. Ferrier of Beatrice Street in Couva, Riley of Jennifer Street in Couva and Collins of Calcutta No 2, hid their faces while being escorted into the courthouse by police officers.

The Clerk of the Peace read the charges to the trio the first of which alleged that they received one Smith & Wesson pistol knowing it to be stolen. The second charge against Ferrier, Riley and Collins, alleged that they received two pistol magazines knowing them to be stolen. And a third charge stated that the men had in their possession two pistols.

The three were remanded into custody and ordered to reappear today before a magistrate.
