An autopsy performed on Monday revealed that garage supervisor Dail “Bolo” Simmons, 50, died as a result of one gunshot wound to the back of his head.

Simmons of Bennet Village, Santa Flora was liming on Los Iros Beach with friends when a fight broke out between rival gangs in the area, following which several gunshots rang out.

Police described Simmons as an innocent bystander who went to remove his white Toyota Hilux which was parked near to where the fight had started when he was struck by stray bullets. He died on the spot.

A report said a fight broke out during a gambling game on the beach — a man described as an “outsider” whipped out a cutlass and planassed a Los Iros man.

Police said the melee spilled out onto the road. One of the men jumped into his car and knocked down a well known villager causing the situation to spiral out of control. There was an exchange of gunfire between the rival gangs and bottles were hurled at each other. Simmons was later found dead.

Los Iros Beach and the environs have become notorious for shootings on weekends.

“But it is the first time someone has been killed,” a senior officer said yesterday.

“There has been shootings here before, and people have been injured in the past.”

A Los Iros man believed to be the main suspect in the shooting death of Simmons has gone into hiding, police said.

Homicide officers are continuing investigations.
