Headless body identified

Wednesday, November 25 2009

THE headless, burnt corpse found at the back of the old Sea Lots fish market on Monday, has been identified as 34-year-old Petit Valley resident Omar Pollidore. Relatives positively identified Pollidore shortly before 1 pm yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre in Federation Park, St James.

Pollidore’s brother Keion Goodridge, a footballer with Joe Public FC and his cousin Andre Lavier identified the murdered man by a religious wrap Pollidore wore around his waist as well as a gold-plated watch Lavier had given to him.

Relatives flocked to the Forensic Centre yesterday, after reading a description of the victim’s clothes which was printed in the daily press and which included a pair of brown-coloured “Clarks” shoes with red, green and black lacings.

Pollidore’s charred, decapitated body was found at the old fish market in Sea Lots, early Monday morning. Police are yet to recover his missing head.

Goodridge described his brother as “harden” after repeated warnings to stay away from Sea Lots fell on deaf ears. “Before he went up there, my cousin warned him about going into Sea Lots,” Goodridge said.

He believed his brother was visiting a female friend in Sea Lots the night he was killed. He was last seen leaving his home Sunday night and reportedly told relatives he was going to Sea Lots. Meantime, Police are yet to make any arrests in the killing and did not return to the scene yesterday to try and recover Pollidore’s head.

On Monday, with the help of the Coast Guard and tracker dogs from the Special Anti-Crime Unit of TT (SAUTT), investigators led an extensive search for the head in the waters off Wrightson Road, as well as some bushy areas at the back of the old fish market. Detectives at the Homicide Bureau’s Port-of-Spain office are investigating.
