HUNDREDS of schoolmates of murdered schoolboy Malik Trent Hilliare filled the St Theresa’s Roman Catholic Church, Malick, Barataria, on Thursday, to say goodbye to the teen described as a good boy.

Hilliare, 13, a Form One student of the Barataria South Secondary School was stabbed by a student of the same school last Friday on Sixth Avenue, close to the Himalaya Sports Club.

Hilliare’s grandmother Cecily was inconsolable and fainted several times before and during the funeral service.

His aunt, Ayana, had to be comforted by relatives throughout the service.

Alana Grace, principal of the San Juan Boys’ Government Primary School, which Hilliare attended, described him as a “model student”.

“He was such an exemplary and responsible student. When he was leaving primary school I cautioned him to remain focussed on his schoolwork. He was surely a model student and one of the good boys,” Grace said.

She also urged all of Hilliare’s classmates to “make a positive turn and do the things that Malik would have wanted you all to do.”

“I strongly believe that he served his tenure and he departed while on a mission to assist or save a schoolmate. I hope you know now and that you live your life not in vain.”

Hilliare was laid to rest at the San Juan Public Cemetery.
