MENTALLY challenged Fyzal Khan, 32, of Plum Mitan was found dead on Thursday, two days after he went missing. He was shot four times in the back and his body partially burnt.

According to a police report, Khan’s body was found by a friend at about 9 am about half-mile away from where he (Khan) lived with his 72-year-old mother, Hafeeza Khan.

Police are yet to determine a motive for the murder but said that they have already interviewed a man in connection with the incident. Speaking yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre in St James, Khan’s elder sister, Fareeda Ramdeen said her brother left home with a friend at about 10 am on Tuesday.

“He loved to go into the bush as he would catch fish and take care of them in aquariums and fish bowls upstairs where he lived. He would also go and dig for yams. We are really baffled as to why anyone would want to murder him,” Ramdeen said.

Another female relative, who wished not to be identified, claimed that police officers were conducting an exercise in the area on Tuesday when gunshots were heard.

“It is very bizarre as to what took place. First we heard he was arrested and then we heard he and his friend were shot at by the police. We really don’t know what happened,” the relative said.
