TWO MURDERS between Saturday night and early yesterday morning, push the number of murders over the weekend to six and the murder toll for the year to 104.

One murder occurred in Belmont, where 25-year-old Lorenzo Kemkeran was shot and left for dead on the roadway close to his home.

At about 12.45 am yesterday, Besson Street detectives responded to reports of gunshots at Hillview Terrace, Plaisance Place, in East Dry River, Port-of-Spain.

When they arrived they saw Kemkeran lying on the roadway and covered in blood. He was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he died shortly after arrival.

In another incident, on Saturday night at about 8.35 pm, Travelle Smith, 23, of Eastern Main Road, Laventille, and a 21-year-old friend from Belmont, were in Smith’s white Nissan AD Wagon driving along St Francois Valley Road when, on reaching near Farrell Lane, someone shot at the vehicle.

Both men were shot and were taken to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where Smith was pronounced dead on arrival.

The second man, whose identity has been withheld because he is a witness, remains warded.

Homicide Bureau detective Sgt Michael Veronique led a team of investigators at both scenes.

They are still to determine motives for the killings.
