A senior advocate lawyer at the Supreme Court of India yesterday met with Chief Justice Ivor Archie to promulgate India’s hosting of the 17th Commonwealth Law Conference (CLC) in 2011.

At the Hall of Justice yesterday, Santhan Krishnan, a member of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association, met with Archie as well as Acting Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington and senior judges of the local Judiciary.

On Monday, Krishnan also met with Attorney General Anand Ramlogan, and extended an invitation for the constitutional lawyer to attend the CLC.

In his short visit however, he was unable to meet with Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar who is also an attorney, and who heads the Commonwealth.

With the theme “emerging economies and the rule of law: challenges and opportunities”, CLC will provide an important opportunity for legal practitioners from across the Commonwealth to come together and develop their legal knowledge, skills and contacts in Hyderabad, India.

Among the topics the programme will be focusing on, includes Human Rights and the Rule of Law.

The CLC will be hosted from February 5-9, 2011.
