RELATIVES of a young mother who perished in an early morning accident in Princes Town yesterday, wished no one had lent her $20 she had asked for to go out and lime on Saturday night.
While returning home, Angellia Affisha Jackson, 26, was killed in a road accident. She was pinned in the front passenger seat of the car in which she was travelling after it collided with a van travelling in the opposite direction. Her body had to be cut out of the car.
Jackson’s sister, Avril Collymore, told Newsday: “She called me on Saturday night and asked me to lend her $20 — she said she was making a spin with a friend and wanted “vex money” just in case she had to end up travelling home. She was somebody like that.
“I didn’t have it to give her, but she still managed to get it and went to lime. All we could say is when your time comes to die, things like this happen.”
Jackson had spent the entire day with Collymore. She had been joking around all day, her sister said..
According to police reports, just after 4 am yesterday, a van travelling along the M1 Ring Road, Princes Town, crossed the white line and crashed into the blue B14 Nissan Sunny in which Jackson was a passenger. Both vehicles spun several times in the road before coming to a halt.
Firefighters from the Princes Town Fire Station had to use the jaws of life to remove Jackson’s body from the wreck.
The District Medical Officer viewed the body and ordered its removal to the mortuary of the San Fernando General Hospital. Both vehicles are at the Princes Town Police Station. Jackson was the mother of Tristan, three, and one-year-old Donelle. Yesterday, relatives and the rest of the small community struggled to come to terms with her death.
Her adopted father, Anthony John, said, “I can’t believe it that my daughter is dead. I went to the scene. They had to cut her out and her neck was broken — there was no way she could have survived.” Relatives said Jackson lived her life to the fullest.
“She was always so happy and enjoyed every day of her life,” John said. “We will miss her.”
Princes Town police are continuing investigations. A post-mortem is expected to be performed today at the mortuary of San Fernando General Hospital.
And at about 3 pm yesterday, Kamal Sharma, 43, of Cipero Road, Golconda, San Fernando, became the country’s latest road fatality. He was killed while returning home in a vehicle driven by Vishnu Paltoo. A white B15 Nissan motorcar driven by Ryan Baptiste was proceeding south along the South Trunk Road, La Romaine, near the Mosquito Creek, when it collided with the vehicle in which Sharma was a passenger. Sharma was thrown out the vehicle and died on the spot.
Ag ASP Basdeo, Ag Insp Ramnarine and Cpl Samuel visited the scene and investigations are continuing.
