2 held for Tobago murder

By KARL E. CUPID Tobago Bureau Thursday, September 9 2010

TWO Scarborough, Tobago men, aged 21 and 25, were taken into police custody early yesterday in connection with the killing of a 17-year-old secondary school student who died at the Scarborough Hospital on Tuesday, one week after he was stabbed during an incident following Independence Day celebrations in downtown Scarborough.

Zach Seeram, a Scarborough Secondary/YTEPP student of Milford Court in Bon Accord, Tobago, died at about 11 am. According to a police report, Seeram was allegedly attacked and stabbed about the torso by two men in the vicinity of the People’s Mall, downtown Scarborough, at about 2.30am on September 1.

A motive for the incident however remains unclear. Seeram was hospitalised nursing stab wounds to the abdomen and back. He was discharged on Friday, but had to be taken back to the hospital the following day after his condition reportedly worsened.

He was treated and discharged. However, on Tuesday, he was again rushed to the hospital in a reportedly critical condition. Seeram, who was scheduled to graduate in January from a YTEPP course in electrical engineering, succumbed to his injuries a short while later.

The suspects were subsequently detained by police; however, up to yesterday afternoon no charges had been laid in the matter.

The file is to be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for a directive on how to proceed. Detective PC Julien Thomas, of the Scarborough CID, is continuing investigations.
