OFFICERS OF the Police Western Division were yesterday viewing footage caught on surveillance tapes from Peake’s service station in Cocorite which recorded a violent gang attack on the night of August 24.

According to a police report, at about 8.38 pm on the night in question, a gang of about eight men stormed the quick shoppe and attacked members of staff and customers.

One of the men, police said, armed himself with a brick and dealt a security guard several blows to his head and body, fracturing his jaw in two places and knocking out three of his teeth. The men then left, but returned at about 9.59 pm armed with weapons.

Police said one of the men threw a sledgehammer which missed an employee and instead smashed the glass cover of a freezer.

A senior Western Division police officer confirmed that the gangsters are all locals.

He assured that the police are working “feverishly” in pursuing their investigations.

Members of the public who may have information on the violent gang attack are asked to contact the nearest police station or 800 TIPS (8477) or 555. Officers of the St James Police Station are investigating.
