A 32-YEAR-OLD man from Carapichiama was yesterday slapped with eight charges, one of which was for robbing the mother-in-law of Justice Anthony Carmona at gunpoint last week Monday.

The man will appear in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court on Monday to answer the charges, including a charge for robbing Savitri Singh, 62, at gunpoint at Emry Street, San Fernando of an X-Trail SUV. That charge stemmed from an incident in which Singh was beaten by the man with a gun, who then drove off with the vehicle. She was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital where she underwent medical treatment.

When the incident occurred at about 12.55 pm, Carmona, who is presiding in a murder trial in the San Fernando High Court, immediately walked over to the hospital where he visited his mother- in-law.

Following investigations by members of the Operations Unit of the San Fernando CID headed by Sgt Hayden Manwarin, the man was arrested hours later the same day. Another charge proffered against him, alleged that on the same day, he robbed Maria Gyan Bridgelal of a Cefiro car. The man was placed on an Identification Parade yesterday after which charges were laid, including one for breaching a “No Entry” sign, as well as a charge for driving on the Priority Bus Route without a permit. The charges were laid by Corporal Matthew Harewood.
