Woman abducted after home robbed

By Cecily Asson Sunday, July 1 2012

Police mounted a search for a woman identified as Melissa Bisnath, of Palmyra Village, San Fernando, last night, after she was reportedly abducted from her home during a robbery yesterday.

In the presence of her husband, Ronald Jitta, police said Bisnath was forced into the family’s white Nissan B15 motorcar and driven away by her abductors.

According to a report, at about 5.15 am yesterday, two men dressed in black, one of them armed with a gun, entered the family’s home and announced a hold-up. They proceeded to rob the couple of an undisclosed sum of money before grabbing Bisnath and escaping in the couple’s car.

Cpl Sieunarine and PC Singh of the Ste Madeleine Police Station are conducting investigations.

Meanwhile, police officers continued the hunt for a Guyanese woman they believe can assist with their investigations into the killing of Gasparillo engineer Andre Joachim.

The woman allegedly made the phone call to the Gasparillo Police Station about a robbery taking place at a house at Fifth Street, Springland, Gasparillo, in which a man was beaten and tied up, but was not present when officers arrived on the scene.

Joachim was found gagged and bound in his bedroom in the early hours of Friday morning, police reported. An autopsy performed by pathologist Dr Valery Alexandrov on Friday, revealed that death was due to suffocation. Alexandrov found a bandanna stuffed in Joachim’s mouth, which was then covered with duct tape.

Investigations are continuing.
