A 28-YEAR-OLD police constable is expected to appear before a Port-of-Spain magistrate later this week charged with misbehaviour in public office. Directions were given yesterday by Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard.

The constable, who has eight years service last worked at Police Traffic Branch.

The charge stems from an incident which occurred on Sunday afternoon involving the removal of several “No Parking” signs from the old Traffic Branch, Abattoir Road headquarters.

The signs were later seized at a scrap iron yard in Beetham Gardens, following a raid by police officers of the Port-of-Spain Division. It is expected that the constable will be placed on a second identification parade today.

The officer, who hails from Tumpuna Road, Arima , was arrested on Monday night while on duty at the Aranjuez South headquarters of Traffic Branch. Police officers say, the constable who has been in custody since Monday afternoon, has been co-operating with the investigation.

Two men arrested by police officers during the raid at the scrap yard have been released.
