DEAD: Hardeo Sahadeo...
DEAD: Hardeo Sahadeo...

THE death of La Romaine watchman Hardeo Sahadeo, 50, has been classified as vehicular homicide and police are now searching for the driver who after knocking down and killing Sahadeo, drove off without even stopping.

Sahadeo was knocked down by a speeding vehicle while on his way to his Jacksingh Trace, Woodland home on Tuesday night. He was last seen alive at 9.30 pm. A few hours later he was found a short distance from his home on the road.

Sahadeo was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital by ambulance where according to police reports he succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of yesterday morning.

An autopsy yesterday at the Forensic Science Centre in St James by Pathologist Dr Valery Alexandrov revealed death was caused as a result of a vehicular accident. Alexandrov told Newsday, “The injuries are consistent with a pedestrian being hit by a moving car with the primary impact being to the back.

Probably the car was travelling at high speed. This gentleman’s body was most likely airborne and landed on the ground. There was not a single injury consistent with him being beaten,” Alexandrov said.

Yesterday, the victim’s relatives struggled to come to terms with his death.

Sahadeo who was unmarried and had no children shared a close relationship with his 11 siblings, sister Laura Sahadeo-Arjoon told Newsday.

“He was a good boy who loved liming,” Sahadeo-Arjoon said. “Last night one of his friends told him not to go out but he insisted he wanted to. We never expected this to happen to him,” she said. Investigations are continuing.
