AN AUTOPSY on the body of the woman who was found floating in the Usine Ste Madeleine dam revealed that she died by drowning. On Thursday the body of 61-year-old Betty Priamdass of Cipero Road in Borde Narve near Princes Town had to be fished out of the dam located along the Naparima Mayaro Road near the Usine Ste Madeleine sugar factory.

Police reports say at about 9 am on Thursday, Priamdass, told relatives she was going to the supermarket and left in a car with a man known to her family. The man later told police along the way she complained of feeling unwell and asked that he stop the vehicle for her to vomit.

The man further told police he stopped at the Usine Ste Madeleine dam and she got out of the car. He said he remained in the car waiting for Priamdass but after about twenty minutes had passed he went in search of her, calling her name.

He said she was nowhere to be found, but he saw her slipper near the water. The man said he became worried and rushed back to Borde Narve to alert her brother that his sister was missing. When relatives returned they found Priamdass’ body floating on the water and alerted the Ste Madeleine police. The body was removed to the San Fernando mortuary and then taken to the Forensics Science centre, St James where the post-mortem was performed.

Priamdass lived with her brother Allan. She was single and had no children.
