The man shot and killed by police in Point Fortin on Monday has been identified as Akeel Moreno, 31, of Point Fortin.

According to police reports, at about 2 am, on Monday, a businessman reported to the Guapo Police Station that an intruder was inside his hardware store on Southern Main Road, Guapo.

Officers responded and on arrival at Crazy Jerry Hardware, the intruder was seen coming through a hole on the southern side of the building with an object in his right hand.

Police reported that an officer called out to the intruder to stop and the man began advancing towards him. The officer took out his service pistol and fired a warning shot, but the man continued advancing with a knife.

The officer then fired several shots wounding the intruder, who was taken to the Point Fortin Area Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigations are continuing.
