A St Helena man is now fighting for his life at hospital after he was shot by robbers inside his home. The wounded man has been identified as 30-year-old Marcus Ganesh, a contract worker.

According to police reports, at about 11.30 am on Sunday, Ganesh was at his home on Misty Lane, Santa Monica Road, St Helena Piarco, with his wife, Karen, and five-year-old daughter when two men armed with guns stormed into the house and announced a hold-up. The thieves robbed the family of three cellphones and $30 in cash. Police said the thieves kept demanding more money and when Ganesh told them that was all the money they had, he was shot twice in the chest and fell to the ground.

Cunupia police were alerted and Constable Jacob went to the scene. Ganesh was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex, Mt Hope, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Supt Johnny Abraham, ASP Bernard and Insp Levia of the Central Division along with other officers visited the scene. The officers were also assisted in their search for the suspects by both the canine and air support units. A suspect said to be from the area where Ganesh lives is in police custody. He is expected to be placed on ID parades, while the hunt is one for the second gunman.
