POLICE yesterday approached Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard for instructions on whether to charge a 27-year-old man for vehicular manslaughter following the death of 42-year-old Elton Gibbs on Friday night.
Gibbs of, Arima Old Road was killed in a hit-and-run accident along the Priority Bus Route. Police reported that Gibbs, Maria Bedeau, 37, and her husband Gary Bedeau, 39, were standing along the east bound shoulder lane of the PBR, at the intersection of Railway Road and the Bus Route, awaiting a maxi, when at about 7.40 pm, a white Mitsubishi Lancer car sped through the red light at the intersection and collided with the group.
Gibbs’ left leg was severed on impact with the car and he subsequently bled to death at the scene. The driver in the car immediately sped off. Hours later, police officers visited an auto-body repair garage in Malabar and arrested a 27-year-old man.
