EIGHT persons were arrested on Wednesday following increased police and army patrols in the Beverly Hills and Clifton Hill Circular Road communities in Laventille. The suspects, who ranged in age from 18 to 45, were reportedly held for narcotics at various locations during the day.

The increased patrols began after a directive was given by the Minister of National Security Jack Warner, following the destruction of four homes and a mini-mart in the two communities due to firebombing.

While no one has been killed or injured in the incidents, it was reported that an estimated 11 families have been directly affected, with many being left homeless as a result of the incidents.

The firebombings are alleged to have been a result of gang activities in the two areas.

No one has been held yet in relation to the arson attacks, however, investigations are continuing.
