Gun found in Maloney

Tuesday, July 30 2013

Northern Division police have recovered yet another firearm on Sunday, following police exercises in the Maloney district.

Police reported that at about 1.50 pm, officers at Maloney Police Station received a report that a young man had been seen brandishing a firearm in the vicinity of Building 11, of the Maloney Housing Development.

The officers made their way to the area, and upon conducting inquiries, they came across the young man who had the weapon in his hand. The officers cornered the individual, and arrested him.

The suspect, who was said to be a 22-year-old man who lived at Building 6, was taken into custody and expected to be placed on several ID parades today, following which he will be charged with possession of a .38 revolver and two rounds of ammunition.

The firearm was the fifth such weapon recovered over the course of 24 hours by officers of the Northern Division.

Senior Superintendent David Abraham once again praised the officers who were involved in the exercise, saying that their continuous hard work was ensuring that the Northern Division was in keeping with the mandate given by Acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams to reduce violent crimes, and to rid the streets and the country of illegal firearms.

The exercise was also one of several which were conducted over the past few days, as the Northern Division maintains its zero tolerance approach to crime in its jurisdiction.
