Several arrests in Southern Divison

A MEMBER of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force is among several persons arrested over the weekend in an ongoing anti-crime exercise conducted in the southern division. The lance corporal who will appear before a magistrate in the San Fernando Court tomorrow was arrested on a warrant for a sexual offence, police said. A man of Cedar Hill Village Princes Town was also arrested and charged for possession of a 9 mm pistol. According to a police report, the suspect was held during a roadblock in Ste Madeleine the unloaded weapon was found in a car in which he was travelling.

A fireman was detained for failing to take a breathalyser test when he was stopped by police officers in San Fernando in the early hours of yesterday morning. During the exercise, 16 persons were arrested and charged with drunk driving while 107 fixed penalty tickets were issued.

A car which police identified as being stolen from the El Socorro district was recovered in Princes Town during the 24-hour police exercise when began 8 am on Friday and ended 8 am yesterday. A total of 67 persons were arrested 37 were held on outstanding warrants for narcotics, firearm related robberies and other offences..

The 24 hour exercise was co-ordinated by Snr Supt Cecil Santana and supervised by ASP Zamsheed Mohammed and included Insp Williams, Sgt Ramdhanie, Cpls McIntosh and Dinoo, PC Sookai and officers of the San Fernando CID and the Southern Division Task Force. Meantime in the south-western division a total of 21 persons were arrested on outstanding warrants while 106 tickets were issued for various traffic offences..
