Wednesday, January 15 2014
A MAN wanted for rape was among 15 persons arrested in an exercise carried out yesterday by police officers from the Warrants Section of the Sangre Grande Police
A 29-year-old construction worker of Brave Hill, Sangre Grande, was caught by surprise as police armed with arrest warrants arrived outside his door at 2.30 am yesterday.
The man, police sources said, will be placed on several Identification Parades as police seek to end several investigations and bring charges of rape against him.
The construction worker, sources said, was on the run since eluding the police in February 2013.
Police sources added that a man from Matura, who was fined $9,000 by a
Sangre Grande magistrate for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking in January 2013 and was given time to pay the fine, but never did, was also arrested in the exercise.
The other thirteen persons picked up in the exercise were wanted on outstanding warrants for child maintenance, housebreaking and other related crimes committed in Matura and Sangre Grande.
The exercise began at 2 am and ended at 12 midday yesterday and saw the officers go to several houses in the Matura and Sangre Grande districts.
Snr Supt Williams, the new head of Eastern Division, personally led the exercise which included ASP Aroon Ramkhelewan, PCs Garvin Pope, David Ottley, Darwin Cortez and WPC Ria Timothy.
