Security heads sit and talk

Thursday, January 16 2014

POLICE officers, soldiers, prisons officers and officers from the National Operations Centre (NOC) have teamed up to deal with crime head on and have agreed that certain key “hot spot” areas will be targeted to weed out criminal elements.

On Tuesday, in keeping with the Prime Minister’s mandate, the joint Heads of Security convened another meeting of the National Operations Centre (NOC). This meeting was chaired by the Acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams. Newsday understands the Heads held strategic and operational discussions to ensure a coordinated, joint effort in the planning and executing of all law enforcement operations. The Acting Commissioner was clear on his intentions which were supported by heads of the Defence Force, Prison Services and the NOC, the latter being led by executive director Garvin Heerah.

According to sources, the combined effort of all arms of the protective services is anticipated to ensure increased patrols and intensifying of law enforcement activities throughout the country. Also there will be a concentrated effort in “hot spot” areas.

The Acting Commissioner was reportedly pleased with the commitment and has echoed a zero tolerance approach to assure the citizenry of the TTPS’ role with its partner agencies in reclaiming Trinidad and Tobago from the criminals.

The Heads of Security are expected to convene again tomorrow.
