26 attorneys called to the Bar

A RECORD twenty-six attorneys were yesterday called to the Bar in a historic ceremony at the Port-of-Spain Fourth Criminal Court. It was the largest number of attorneys ever called in one ceremony outside of the annual legal convocation.
Justice Stoyllmeyer, and Justice Smith, both said yesterday’s 8am ceremony was the first to ever take place in a criminal court, and noted the large number of those admitted into practice.
A wide range of attorneys turned up to “petition” those being called including Karl Hudson-Phillips QC, who petitioned Allison Lea Jacob, Central Authority Unit attorney David West who petitioned Ian Rampersad, and Stephanie Daly, wife of Martin Daly SC, President of the Law Association of Trinidad and Tobago. She petitioned Vanita Veda Lutchmeesingh.
Among those called yesterday were Natasha Moonilal, wife of UNC Alliance Oropouche East MP Roodal Moonilal. Husband and wife posed for photographers on the steps of the Hall of Justice.
“It’s very exciting. It’s been a very hard journey,” Mrs Moonilal said. Mr Moonilal, who holds a law degree, said he intends to be called “in the very near future.”
The 26 attorneys called are: John Tackaberry QC, Marlene Bally, Sharma Boodram, Sofiyah Caliph, Lester Chariah, Emma Jane Charles, Orrin Constance, Ivan Damien Daniel, Solange De Souza-Ransome, Kylene Nerupa Deosingh, Alicia Salisha Ghany, Karen Louise Gough, Jacob, Krishna Jaglal, Tara Lutchman, Lutchmeesingh, Vindra Karen Maharaj, Natasha Moonilal, Danielle Murray, Irena Paynter, Liza Ramjohn, Ian Rampersad, Kayreen Stephenson, Raol Syne, Daniela Taklalsingh, Stacey Waithe.
