Woman decoy facing 3 murder charges

By Nalinee Seelal Sunday, May 3 2009

The woman detained by homicide officers on Tuesday in connection with being in possession of jewelry belonging to two murder victims, is expected to be charged tomorrow with three murders.

The suspect, a store clerk of Felicity, was detained on Tuesday after police officers led by Supt Wayne Boyd and ASPs Johnny Abraham and Stanley Ramdeen searched her home, and found a bag containing several pieces of jewelry.

Sunday Newsday understands that relatives of two murder victims have positively identified jewelry found at the home of the woman.

Up to late yesterday, the woman was in custody at the Region 2 Homicide Bureau Office in Arouca. Police believe the woman was used as a decoy passenger to lure unsuspecting females to travel in a taxi. They were then robbed, sexually assaulted, and killed.

The woman has already been linked to the kidnapping of eight-year-old school girl Leah Lammy; the disappearance of 26-year-old Sally Lobai, of Oropune Village Piarco; and a third female murder victim. Apart from the jewelry, the other clues the police have linking the woman to the disappearance of the victims are phone records, which indicate calls were made to her from a cellphone which belonged to Leah Lammy.

Her 48-hour detention ended on Thursday but after jewelry found at her home was identified, police decided to further detain her. They will approach Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Carla Brown-Antoine tomorrow.

Police believe that the woman could lead them to the mastermind behind the murders, and the kidnappings of four women, and the schoolgirl, all of central Trinidad, who were snatched late last year, and March of this year.
