Millhouse to unveil ‘Southern Comfort’Tuesday, May 19 2009
AWARD-WINNING Caribbean fashion label Millhouse Clothing will present their 2009 Holiday collection “Southern Comfort” at the highly anticipated Fashion Week Trinidad and Tobago on May 29 at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad, Port-of-Spain.
“Southern Comfort”, Millhouse Clothing’s Holiday 2009 collection, designed by dynamic duo, husband and wife fashion team, Gregory and Coline Mills, was inspired by the Old West, “Maverick” era. It is a reflection of the brave men who charted courses into unknown territories of the old west, with clairvoyance and temerity.
It is also representative of Millhouse Clothing’s choice as a small business to forge ahead and remain resilient in this turbulent economic climate. “It’s a tough time for business but style is never dead. Caribbean designers are inherently brave. We have a history, long and treasured of charting into well bordered territories and insist we have something to say in our own unique way, and no one can stop us. We love doing menswear, we are the best dressed guys in town and we know it,” said head designer, Gregory Mills.
In the “Southern Comfort” collection, black, hue and stripes are the predominant element. The finest wools were used, along with dupioni silks and Sea Island cotton. All fabrics were sourced locally and all samples were stitched by the master himself, Gregory Mills. Millhouse Clothing designers, Gregory and Coline Mills, chose to present their holiday collection at Fashion Week Trinidad and Tobago 2009, instead of the ultra relaxed theme of their Spring/summer 2010 collection, “Tee Marie”, in keeping with the splendour of this elite event, which has been relocated to the Hyatt Ballroom this year.
The labels Summer 2010 collection, “Tee Marie”, inspired by Trinidad and Tobago’s indigenous flora, will be unveiled at the ‘Islands of the World Fashion Week’, scheduled for October this year in Bahamas; just in time for the Tourist Season November to April.
Millhouse Clothing has established a reputation of bringing the clean lines and sophistication of slim fit to Caribbean design. The label was founded in 1997 by menswear designers Gregory Mills and wife Coline Baptiste-Mills and is Trinidad and Tobago’s foremost men’s fashion design company, with both local and regional recognition. At present their fashion line is retailed in Trinidad and Tobago only. However, their clients include residents of North America and several European countries.
