VillageRs hold the dead anaconda....

The President of The Zoological society of Trinidad and Tobago, Gupte Lutchmedial has received several calls from international partners with regards to some 25-foot anaconda that was allegedly killed in Barrackpore, Trinidad.

Investigations into this report by the society proved futile.

The photographs and story that were circulated on the internet of the dead anaconda and the carnage committed thereafter was sent to the society yesterday morning. The snake was pregnant with about 100 babies and had been cut open.

According to Lutchmedial the dead snake was said to have been killed in Barrcakpore, but this is not so.

The pictures seem to originate out of South America.

Anacondas are reported to be the worldís heaviest snake and could grow up to 30 feet. This is one of the fabulous animals that we share with South America and is a protected species in Trinidad and Tobago by law.

The largest anaconda on record found in Trinidad so far was in the early 1930s at Cocal Estate, Manzanilla measuring over 30 feet. Cocal Estate is part of the Nariva Swamp protected area, Lutchmedial said.
