Speaking at the seminar at the Scarlet Ibis Room, Trinidad Hilton, cosmetology educator, out of the USA, Melissa Goldman, took attendees through the paces of what they can expect once they enrol into the programme. She explained the professional and educational opportunities and outlined the curriculum and education opportunities that are available upon completion of the intensive programme. She explained that the Pivot Point module will help students prepare for their career with a strong technical background, communication skills and resources necessary to become successful cosmetologists, and took them through the different phases of the courses, including the fundamentals of sculpture, hair design, texture and colour.
Manuel Rodriguez, recognised in the industry as one of the most successful educators, gave an exciting and spirited talk on what it takes to be successful in a career of cosmetology. Using live demonstrations, Rodriguez showed that by just dividing the hair into sections, achieving the perfect hair cut can be easily accomplished. The world renowned hair stylist also gave a motivational lecture, in which he gave the attentive audience advice on becoming the best beautician that they can be. “You must commit yourselves to be the best that you can be. Have the correct attitude and learn to be humble and talk to people. Be polite and greet people with a smile. You must learn to evaluate yourselves and the way you perform,” Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez told the audience that they should aim for international standards. “I don’t see why Trinidad can’t compete with the rest of the world. You have it in you to be at international standards.
“I would love to take a team of professionals from this country to the biggest hair show in the world to compete. You have to believe that this is possible. It is not impossible. You have it within you to compete against the world in this industry,” he said.
