The orchestra consisting of 28 members led by Elvis Davis and managed by Tamba Gwinde were all excited after a presentation by Jazz Association of Trinidad and Tobago (JATT) President, Sean Thomas, about the beauty of America’s Classical Music, Jazz and what will be gained at the workshop.

The week will kick off with a “Meet and Greet Launch” on August 11 where registered students, lecturers, directors, media and sponsors will have the opportunity to network and share ideas on America’s Classical Music which will be followed by a jam session.

From August 12-18, JATT the Summer Holistic Learn, Listen and Play Jazz Workshop takes place. Designed to explore scales, chords, rhythms, blues, spirituals, gospel, opera jazz and calypso, it will allow students to study, interact and jam with the finest local and regional jazz musicians.

Invited lecturers include Trinidadian mezzo-sopranist Anne Fridal, Chalkdust, Leroy Clarke, Denise Demming, Arturo Tappin, Clive Zanda, Mungal Patasar, Gillian Seecharan Scott, Anders Kappel, Jason Baptiste, David Bertrand, Chantal Esdelle, Clifford Charles, Sean Thomas and 2006 National Trumpet Competition winner Etienne Charles.

Students will have an opportunity to experience the “Common Wealth of Sounds” concert scheduled for August 16, featuring local and regional musicians.

Featured musicians include tenor and soprano saxophonist Luther Francois; Sean Thomas; Arturo Tappin; Etienne Charles; Clive Zanda; Douglas Reddon; and Dave Marcellin.
