LION Gerald Craigwell is the new President of the Lions Club of Port of Spain Central for the fiscal year 2009/2010.

The installation of the new Board of Directors was carried out by Past District Governor Adrian Franklin.

Vice Presidents are Lions Commander Kirton Huggins, Lt Col Wendell Salandy and former Ambassador Learie Rousseau. Arlene Gomes was re-elected Secretary, Wendy Imamshah is her assistant and Joseph Barry is treasurer. The Board of Directors are Past District Governors Terence Boswell Inniss, Franklin and Raymon Shepherd, along with Lions Noel Fitzwilliam, Kenneth Pierre, Theo Alfred, Arthur Maul, Lionel Nurse, Winston Pierre, Karl Boatswain, Lenville Marshall and Gregor Reece.

The first Lions Club formed in this country is reported to have recently concluded a very impressive and successful fiscal year from which many community projects benefitted financially. Some of those to have requested and received donations between July 2008 and June 2009 include several primary schools, secondary school students, the National Library Youth Literacy Programme, sporting organisations, church and community programmes.

Each request for financial aid is subjected to critical examination before recommendation and approval are given. The club has already started work on various fundraising projects in order to support its service to the community, since according to the rules of lionism all funds obtained from public-supported projects must be used to the benefit of the citizens of the country.
