Bounty Killer...
JAMAICAN dancehall artiste, Bounty Killer will arrive in Trinidad tonight, for the much anticipated Cease Fire Concert, to be staged at King George V Park, Port-of-Spain, tomorrow night. The other concert headliners, Vybz Kartel and Macka Diamond, are already in the country.
Staged by Jacho Entertainment, the concert, billed as an initiative to foster peace, will see dancehall rivals Bounty Killer and Vybz Kartel putting aside their “musical war” for the sake of peace, to entertain the throngs of patrons that are expected to turn out for the concert.
Odane Anderson, head of Jacho Entertainment said all systems are in place for patrons to enjoy a safe experience at the concert. He said VIP patrons and general admission patrons can rest assured that Jacho Entertainment will ensure that they enjoy “the beginning of a change of what concerts should look like in TT”.
Anderson said Jacho Entertainment has been able to do what Jamaican promoters have been trying to do for some time — have these two talented artistes perform on the same stage. He said the concert is one of the biggest to be held in this country and ticket sales are going well.
Local entertainers, KMC and Mr King are also slated to perform, as well as a host of other local acts. The concert will kick off at 10 pm and is expected to end at 5 am, according to Anderson. The Jamaican artistes will all be backed by their full band. Each artiste will perform for two hours.
Vybz Kartel, born Adidja Azim Palmer on January 7, 1976, in Kingston, is well known for his hard hitting ghetto lyrics and rival showdowns with Bounty Killer and other popular Jamaican artistes, including Movado.
Kartel is perhaps the most talked about man in dancehall — a captivating figure noted just as much for his supposed rivalries and alleged personal controversy as he is for his suave but brazen delivery, racy content, and sharp lyrical agility. His latest album. Pon Di Gaza, released on September 22, gives listeners a totally different perspective; an in-depth look at the man behind the myth. Released on the Adidjahiem Records /NotNice Records label, Pon Di Gaza is a complete portrayal of the life and times of Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer.
Bounty Killer was one of the most aggressive dancehall stars of the 90’s, a street-tough rude boy with an unrepentant flair for gun talk. There were many other facets to his music — condemnations of corrupt authority.
Bounty was born Rodney Price in the Kingston ghetto of Trenchtown on June 12, 1972. He is known as the Gully God because of the place he comes from in Kingston —Cassava Piece, an area with a huge gully running through it.
In 2001, Bounty Killer collaborated with No Doubt on their “Hey Baby” single. Further successes followed with albums such as Ghetto Dictionary Volume I: Art of War and Ghetto Dictionary Volume II: Mystery, the latter receiving a Grammy nomination.
