‘Love’ music and dance at St Mary’s

Thursday, November 19 2009

TRANSFORMING a school hall into a well-appointed performance space is no mean feat, yet that is what Bernadette Scott and members of Love Movement accomplished ahead of their musical production Love Has Come.

The group’s annual pre-Christmas productions usually take place at Queen’s Hall but this year that venue was unavailable in the countdown to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Port-of-Spain later this month. As a result, the Centenary Hall at St Mary’s College was the venue for the group’s four full-length performances last weekend.

Loyal followers of the Love Movement, which comprises three choirs, were not disappointed. Not only was the venue made comfortable and secure but the show itself was up to the group’s usual high standard.

Under the guidance of Scott, the group’s Musical and Artistic Director, the production unfolded in three parts, with musical styles ranging from rock to gospel.

Highlights included “A 50s Christmas Medley” by the Republic Bank Youth Outreach Group and the Senior Choir’s light hearted and highly entertaining “Jingle Everyway!” with solos by Kwesi Jeffers, Deborah Arrindell and Christopher Aird.

Part two of the production belonged to the Lights of Love Children’s Choir with Santa Bowed At Christmas.

In drama, dance and song, the youngsters told the story of Santa losing his Christmas spirit until he has an encounter with Infant Jesus, Mary and Joseph that restores his joy in the season.

The third part of the production, with hymns and popular Christmas gospel songs, ended with the Love Movement Family in “Una Fiesta Navidad”.
