MEMBERS the Arima Santa Rosa Lions Club recently held an historic induction and recognition and recognition function at which the Mayor of Arima, Adrian Cabralis was a guest speaker.

It was a history-making event as one of the inductees, Eastlyn Samuel, received the prestigious Melville Jones Award from the International Lions Club Foundation for her dedicated humanitarian service.

President of the Arima Santa Rosa Lions, Dr Maria Byron, presented Samuel with a special plaque on behalf of the world-renowned organisation. She was the first member of the group to be inducted and receive the award simultaneously.

Samuel and five other persons — Judy Denicourt, Jennifer Prince, Carol Clarie-Ceekens, Brian Samuel and Carlan Telesford — were officially inducted as members of the Arima Santa Rosa Group.

Addressing the gathering, Mayor Cabralis commended the Lions on their work in the community and also congratulated all of the inductees.

A total of eight individuals were given recognition awards for their contributions to the club. The event, which was held at the Arima Town Hall was attended by a large gathering of specially invited guests, including civic officials.
