‘Lyric and Song’ at Bon Air High Tuesday, February 9 2010
STUDENTS of the Bon Air High School were certainly in the carnival mood as the popular Digicel Lyric and Song caravan rolled into Arouca last Thursday on its third stop for 2010. The event was carried live on 94.1FM Boom Champions.
The afternoon was filled with fun, laughter and music as some of the biggest names in the music industry both regionally and locally were on hand to deliver words of wisdom, encouragement, inspiration and messages of hope to the students as well as entertain them with their popular hits.
First on stage was the young gospel singer Jaydee who had the packed school hall swaying and singing along to his inspirational gospel songs. After his energetic performance he interacted with the enthusiastic youngsters as he answered questions they posed to him about the various challenges he has experienced. He also urged the children “not to give up and to continue to press on”.
Brought on stage to a thunderous round of applause was past Groovy Soca Monarch winner, Biggie Irie, who brought students to their feet when he performed his popular song “Nah Going Home”.
The final artiste for the afternoon was Allison Hinds who had the children screaming, singing and dancing in the aisles as she performed on stage. Hinds sang a collection of some of her most popular hits as the students joined in, clapped and waved to her renditions. Hinds pleaded with the students to stay in school and get an education. As with the other schools where the Digicel Lyric and Song visited, students were given an opportunity to showcase their talent to their fellow classmates and be critiqued by one of the artistes. At the Bon Air High School one such lucky student performed her own composition ‘Success’ backed up by two of her peers. Jaydee advised her that it was important to be passionate and confident about what she was singing and those attributes would be portrayed in her performance on stage.
The Digicel Lyric and Song will appear at two schools next week.
