SWAHA International, one of the largest non-profit Hindu organisations in this country, hosted Ganga Dhara 2010 celebrations on June 20, (Father’s Day) at Mannet Ranch, near the Arima River. Devotees from various SWAHA temples in TT gathered at the site from 8 am for the event which was open to the public.

Hindus celebrate this religious event by going to water courses like rivers, streams or the ocean to perform puja and worship Lord Shiva and Ganga Maa.

It is a festival that celebrates the descent of the holy river Ganga to Earth. Ganga Maa has the ability to purify and sanctify. Therefore, Ganga Dhara is all about purifying internally and externally. Added to this, there is the opportunity for man to reconnect with nature. Hinduism has always advocated preservation of the environment.
