POPULAR entertainer Ronnie McIntosh and his wife Caroline launched their 2011 mas presentation Survivors at St John’s Ambulance Hall last Saturday night.

The couple said they came up with their latest Carnival presentation after reminiscing about their accomplishments, pitfalls and stumbling blocks en route to their hat trick of wins in recent years.

They will once again be competing in the medium band category. In response to complaints that the band had outgrown that category, Ronnie told Newsday: “We have nine sections, each with approximately 100 people. In 2010 we had 918 masqueraders on the road and I welcome anyone to check them, or they can check our books if they are in doubt.”

The 2011 presentation will depict a natural disasters and phenomena in sections titled “Global Warming”, “Tsunami”, “Earthquake”, “Smoke Pollution”, “Bird Flu” and “Fire On The Hills”. Other sections, “Guardian Angel” and “Save The Earth-Go Green”, put the spotlight on environmentalism as a growing social philosophy.

The launch was a fun event with patrons dancing to music selections by DJs Fro and Element, Ezel and John Boy and Jamoon. However, the star of the evening was Black Coffee with his careful mix of the old, not so old, and current hits.
