During the last week of the school term, following the results of the SEA Examination, over 150 students who live around Nariva and attend Manzanilla Government Primary School and Plum Mitan Presbyterian Primary School were accommodated by the Manatee Conservation Trust with an educational visit to the Emperor Valley Zoo.

The Trust which is a non-profit organisation based in Manzanilla undertook to treat the students as part of its social and environmental responsibility. This event was coordinated by the Trust’s President, Lisa-Ramkissoon-Maharaj, who also took the time to assist with the guided tours and Petting Zoo.

The students were filled with excitement as they participated in this educational programme and had an opportunity to interact with several of the Petting Zoo’s animals such as tortoises, snakes and a spectacled caiman.

For her outstanding achievement in the SEA examination with a score of over 90 percent, Aaliyah James, a student and junior volunteer with the Trust’s leatherback turtle protection programme, was recognised.

These students are among thousands of children who visit the Emperor Valley Zoo during the vacation period.
